April, It's part of Windows, as opposed the Ariel logs. You can get to it through Control Panels > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. You'll see entries for application, security, system, and other events. The Application, Security, and System events are the ones that are most likely to be useful. As Steve noted, there are two types of event with which you need be concerned, those indicated by an exclamation point on a yellow yield sign for warnings, and those with a red circle with an x through it for errors. Clicking on an individual event will open a window with information as to what the event was. Two warnings, though--first, many of the descriptions are cryptic, so you still will likely need to consult with your local IT staff to determine which ones are meaningful, and second, the proximate event is not always the root cause of the problem, again meaning you'll need to consult with your IT staff.
All that said, rebooting only takes a few minutes, and will clear many lingering problems related to memory handling, device connections, and bad network connections, among others. I've rebooted my Ariel pc almost daily since we started using it in 2001 or so, and haven't had any of the problems people have reported unless my SCSI scanners weren't turned on before the reboot. Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe it's because most of my activity is sending, not receiving.
