Considering originality is such a big deal with him, what's his take
on the current music market? "It's a matter of sustaining numbers, not
originality. If a song clicks with the masses and stays on for three
months, it's certainly an achievement for its lyricist and composer.
But aaj kal yeh nahin hota hain, even today songs from the '60s, '70s
and '80s rule the roost. In my opinion the only composer and singer
capable of replicating the excellence of golden oldies today is AR
Rahman — he is a class apart," he muses.
