hi
experiments with non native singers is okay only to a
very small extent..one or two songs is fine..
i donno whay rahman is continuously using hindi
singers for tamilsongs, tamil singers for some other
language..
ex.. its very irritating to hear udit narayan singing
tamil or telugu.. whatever fresh or new his voice be,
its just not sitting well.. not just udit, there are
soo many north indian voices which dont suit tamil.

if freshness in the voice is the reason for their
usage, there are hundreds of tamil/telugu malayalam
singers who have fresh voices, express better and
pronounce the language better.. why dont rahman chose
some of those voice? why only those same north indian
voices udit, madhusri, shreya and some one else..

i always think he shud pick only tamils for tamil,
hindi people for hindi and telugu singers for telugu
songs..

see its not only rahman... other composers are using
non native singers even to the worst possible extent..
their extensive usage udit is anyway snatching aways
the freshness in arr songs..so what is the point in
rahman using them? back in 1994, it sounded okay..
but now, look at the south indian music, every album
contains only hindi singers.. its not helping rahman
to make his songs sound apart..

using outside singers for songs like sivaji-style is
okay bcos of its genre..also maryam teller for maiya
maiya fits well .. but its not helping the melody
based songs.

my only concern is to see rahman not getting
criticized for using non native singers who cd not
pronounce properly.. we can talk anything here,
between us.. but i dont want any outsider to say
anything about rahman.

may be he must start a new trend by using all native
singers only to elevate the lyrical meaning and
expression too..

in any case, i credit rahman for giving life for soo
many new singers..
thanks

Greetings
