Jaane TuÂ…Â’s music is unconventional - Rahman

A.R. Rahman started his journey in Bollywood with the blockbuster Roja 17 years
ago and has never looked back since then. We spoke to him exclusively about his
journey as a music director and also about his forthcoming projects.
“It has been great journey for me as a music director and also a learning
experience. ItÂ’s good to see that people are open to listening to different and
new forms of music. Because when people start appreciating someoneÂ’s music it
inspires a music director and this has helped me grow musically,” explains the
maestro.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is his latest project which is also Aamir KhanÂ’s nephew
Imran Khan’s debut movie. “For this movie I have personally tried to go the
unconventional way and given music which is completely different from the stuff
I have done till date. I have tried to connect more with the younger generation
and at the end I can say that it is a young kind of soundtrack.”

A.R.RahmanÂ’s stage shows have been a huge success abroad and even he personally
prefers to do a lot of operas and orchestra. About it, he says, “A lot of
Indian people have settled in UK, USA and London and I felt the urge to get out
of my comfort zone and do something challenging which allows me to try my hand
at something new so it’s an experience in its own.”

On the latest trend of music directors going south, Rahman opines, “Language
can never be a barrier. ItÂ’s the script of the film and the kind of subject one
is working on is what matters. As far I am concerned I go for the art and the
listener needs to get engrossed in what he/she is listening.”

A.R.Rahman’s big projects to come include Ada, Dilli 6 and Ghajini. “I have
different music to offer to the listeners,” he promises.
