In Vairamuthu Neram today,

He speaks,

" For the film Kizhakku Cheemayile, we had been to a village in interior
parts of Tamil Nadu. Dir Bharathiraaja requested me to write lyrics for a
song. We sat together to have breakfast. IN front of me, Actor Napolen and
Vijaykumar were seated. Both were sitting with big moustaches. I asked , as
to who are they in the movie ?. They are brother-in-laws. Radhika's brother
is Vijayakumar, and husband is Napolean. The brother cries, when he parts
away with his sister after marriage. The sister cries, bearing the pain of
seperation. The cart is moving in the outskirts of the city. A song has to
be written in that situation. When I was seeing both of these actors, I
developed a desire seeing their moustaches. I asked the Director, as to who
is the good man , and who is the bad man among the two. Vijayakumar, brother
was a good man, and Napolean, husband would turn bad in the later part of
the story. I started analysing their moustaches, and noticed that
Vijayakumar 's mush was a little peace loving one, and Napolean 's was one
which was desirous of violence.

This mush was the roots for that song " Kaatalan Kaatu Vazhi , Kallipatti
pora vazhi ". In that song, there would be a portion, as if sung by Radhika
( the sister )

" Anil val meesai konda annan unnai vitttu; puli vaal meesai konda
purushanoda poi varuvaaa "

Meaning :- I am leaving the company of my brother, who has got a mush like a
squirril, and going with my husband, who has got a mush like that of a
tiger. In this, squirril is vegetarian, and tiger means non- veg. Squirril
's tail is a safe one, whereas the tail of the tiger is a dangerous one.
Thus, leaving the safe company of brother, and going to the future dangerous
company of the husband was portrayed in those lyrics, and the inspiration
for the same was the moustache.

Oh. Moustache. I thank you for giving me the impetus to write those lyrics."
