SmartIT is just a GUI front-end for ITSM, it was introduced before Remedy v9 was released. Consider SmartIT an alternative interface to ITSM as compared to the standard mid-tier interface if you will. I believe a new version of SmartIT was released along with the latest release of ITSM 9 but I am not positive on that.
