I once had a problem with the REPLACE function of Set fields that worked a little differently on the Client tool than it did in the Mid-Tier.. Are you using this function in particular or any other function in your set field operation? If so this must be resulting in a different output on the Mid-Tier than it is in the client tool as a result of which some of your Mid-Tier actions might be failing...
