While building out my new ITSM 7 server for production, I gave sync
search database a spin to see at what point it fails to work anymore.
There is a finite limit to how many objects you can have on a server
before it simply will no longer setup and sync a search database. ITSM
7 exceeds that limit. (7.1.00.001 Admin Tool on Vista workstation with
2 gb RAM)

Installed Objects Sync Search db
ARS 7.1.00.001, Search db, AREmail 1,333 successful
CMDB 2.1.0 3,946 successful
Approval Server, Assignment Engine, FB 5,551 successful
Incident Management 20,674 successful 3.5
hours
Problem Management 23,039 successful
Change Management 26,502 successful 4.25
hours
Service Level Management 30,494 successful 4,5
hours
ITSM Patch 006 31,045 failed twice -
takes over 1 hour to fail

I had not been checking the record count in object_search_details as I
went, so I don't know where it peaked with a successful sync (without
doing db restores backwards), but it is currently sitting at 40,297
records. I don't have time to go back - I still have the Data
Management Patch 9003 and Remedy Knowledge Management to install, plus
some Kinetic apps, which will push me over 36,700 server objects.

The moral of the story is, if you will be loading much or most of ITSM 7
and will have over 30K objects on your server, don't even bother wasting
time trying to sync the search database. That entire feature of the
admin tool is defunct now.
