Joe, As far as I know it would only work at the ARS Filter layer. My understanding is that AIE uses the ARS API [and/or the CMDB api that is based on the ARS api] to create/update ARS data. ( Although I have yet to find in the docs the exact conditions that the filters would need to be set to fire on, I would guess Merge.)
Maybe that point in time is to late for your comparisons in AIE?
