Yes it does appear like something is failing. I didn't have any issues with
propagating the cache across the secondary servers in 6.3 and 7.0. Haven't
as yet set up any server groups in 7.1 so it may be a 7.1 issue?

If this is a dev server where 'not much' may get written to logs, I'd
suggest turning on your API logs to see what API's are triggered at the time
the signal is sent from the primary server to the secondary servers.. I do
not remember what signal you are supposed to expect but comparing the
signals that have ran against the primary servers with those that have run
on the secondary servers may give you an idea..

    Here’s how I’m testing:

  1. Log on to primary server, open form, make note of layout

  2. Close AR User

  3. Clear AR Cache

  4. Log on to secondary server, open form, make note of layout. It is the
same as on the primary form at this point.

  5. Close AR User

  6. Clear AR Cache

  7. Make change to layout of form on Primary server

  8. Log on to primary server, open form, notice change to form

  9. Close AR User

  10. Clear AR Cache

  11. Log on to secondary server, open form, do not see change

  12. Close AR User

  13. Clear AR Cache

  14. Wait 10 minutes, log on to secondary server, open form, do not see
change.

I agree. The entry below should indicate that arsignal has been triggered
to get the new definitions but it appears to be false or not working as it
has appeared several times in the log but the definition has not been
updated on the secondary server.

  Guess I’ll open a ticket with support…

  Thanks for the help, Joe.

Is development cache mode on, on any of these servers? If it is on I think
you will not notice the change until you log out and log in..

The entries you see below are written to the log only after arsignal has
been triggered to read the new definitions..

Ok, I made a change with the server group logging on. Here’s what I see
on the secondary server:

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:04:00.5253 */ Server <servername> executing
recache request

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:04:30.5362 */ Server <servername> noting
request from remote server to recache definitions

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:05:00.5506 */ Server <servername> executing
recache request

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:11:00.6834 */ Server <servername> noting
request from remote server to recache definitions

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:11:30.6960 */ Server <servername> executing
recache request

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:20:32.6579 */ Server <servername> noting
request from remote server to recache definitions

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:21:02.6685 */ Server <servername> executing
recache request

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:24:32.7440 */ Server <servername> noting
request from remote server to recache definitions

    <SGRP> /* Wed Apr 09 2008 10:25:02.7546 */ Server <servername> executing
recache request

    <END OF LOG FILE>09 2008 10:28:34.5618 */ Server <servername> noting
request from remote server to recache definitions

    <END OF LOG FILE>09 2008 10:29:04.5732 */ Server <servername> executing
recache request

    <END OF LOG FILE>09 2008 10:31:34.6280 */ Server <servername> noting
request from remote server to recache definitions

    <END OF LOG FILE>09 2008 10:32:06.4183 */ Server <servername> executing
recache request

    <END OF LOG FILE>

With the last log entry appearing about 30 seconds after I hit save on
the change.

However, the change does not appear to have take affect on the secondary
server. Yes, I’ve cleared my AR cache. The change does appear on the primary
server where it was made.

I can force the change by running “arsignal –r servername”

This has worked before so I’m assuming (yes, yes, I know about assume)
that it still is. Turning on the logging is a great idea. Not sure why I
didn’t think of that…let me do that and see what happens.

    Thanks
