That is what has always happened to me.. I guess the reason why Remedy support
asks you to delete the forms is just to clear them out and restart the process.
It didn't help me ever.. Often before my admin tool crashed I would run out of
system resources on my client - the process nearly hogged all my client memory
resource..
In my opinion the database structure has simply grown out too large for this
process to handle. I have even tried the operation in a admin only mode, and
didn't get too far.. I've even tried the operation on the command line hoping
that might work.. still no go..
I've even tried helping the process by truncating the t and h tables and
resetting the nextid's to 1 making them look as though the operation was never
ever run.. That didn't help me either..

Well shoot, I deleted the forms, but it still crashes my admin tool. Oh well, I
guess it's back to the old way of doing it... manually digging through all
filters and active links...

Gary,

It doesn't always work.. What Remedy support reccommends when these
crashes occur is to redo the sync database forms by deleting them..
There are 3 of these forms and they all begin with object_****

After deleting these forms, rebuild them and then see if it helps..

The primary cause why the sync operation fails is if it is run against a
significantly large database - size in terms of structure - thousands of forms,
and active links and filters etc.. I was never able to run it on ITSM 7
databases - it either failed by crashing the admin tool or sometimes even
though it looks like it has completed with the end message that the search
completed, it is actually incomplete. Many of the forms do not have anything in
the sync database tables thus showing blank space in the Related Workflow tab..

Over the past year or so I have actually given up on ever expecting this
feature to work on large databases such as the ITSM database..

Hope this helps..

Joe

Sorry for the no subject, my original email had a subject, but it was sent
incorrectly and errored.

Thanks Roger, that gets the sync to stop. There was a trick out there that some
people used that would fix the issue where it would crash the admin tools. I
believe it involved deleting some forms. Does anyone remember the issue,
because I'm still crashing my admin tool every time I try to sync.

Thanks,

Gary

Gary,

Go to  the object_search_admin form and set the Run/Not Run to 0.

Hi all, I know that I've seen it on here before, but due to changing jobs, I do
not have my vast archive of emails through which I could search.

Whenever you sync your search dataset, and it causes your admin tool to crash,
then you open your admin tool, it still says it's searching, and never
finishes, what is it you do in order to rectify the situation and get a new
search database synced?

I have seen it done before, but forgot how.

Thanks
