The licensing format is profoundly different; HOWEVER, when you upgrade from
7.0 to 7.1 Remedy very kindly upgrades your licenses for you.

Be aware that after your upgrade you will need to order new licenses in the 7.1
format. If you have any unapplied 7.0 licenses lying around your desk, you
will not be able to apply them after the upgrade. You will have to purge them
and apply 7.1 licenses.

One more thing: Prior to 7.0 you applied licenses through the Admin tool. In
7.0 you could apply licenses through the User tool or the Admin tool. In 7.1,
you apply licenses ONLY through the User tool. This is a shift in the way
you'll think about licensing.

To come to think of it thats exactly correct.

The only place we had to purge was where we moved from Windows to Linux.

We ddin't have to purge on our existing unix servers after an upgrade.

When we upgraded from 6.3.0 to 7.1.0 we did not do any purge and the licenses
were imported automatically as part of the upgrade (ar_install) script

Joe,

Is the format really different? We have upgraded a couple of non-production
servers to 7.1 and did not purge licenses beforehand. When looking at the
license information after the upgrade the only license that had a key was the
server. All other entries just had quantities. I did not purge the licenses
because there was no change of hardware. I assume that Remedy took the data in
the license file and made entries in the license form. Is my thinking incorrect?

7.1 license format is different from 7.0 so yes a purge is in order while
considering an upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1.

When upgrading from 7.0.1 to 7.1 is it necessary to purge the licenses on the
server before you begin the upgrade? If this is done, will the upgrade pick up
the correct information for the all the licenses on the server?
