There are two supported databases for ARS on the Linux platform - Oracle and 
IBM DB2.  There is no arserverd for Linux that can connect to a Sybase database 
- local or remote.

If you want to use a Sybase database you have the choice of running ARS on 
Solaris, HPUX or AIX.
