If you are just updating and do not wish the OOB filters to kick off the
Base Element is safe enough to import to from AIE. I recently imported
around 400k assets from a 5.5 system into CMDB 7.6p1 and the only way
that I could pull it off in a timely manner was to run them into BE. I
imported them into the BMC.SANDBOX dataset and let the OOB
reconciliation jobs pull them into BMC.ASSET. Worked great.

** The question is how do you not know what class it is in. Also you can
do a staging form for this that will do a query against the Base Element
to get the class id and then do the push to the right class.

What if you do not know what class the data is in. For instance if you
where given a file of financial data for something like that with Asset
ID's and that is it. How would you update the classes then, have a
staging form that queries and brings in the class and then have workflow
that pushes to that class?

So you are saying we should never create a AIE mapping against base
element?

**

List,

Has anyone built a AIE mapping against BMC_BaseElement. I have a
mapping built against Computer System and I want to use it for a number
of other classes. Instead of building it a bunch of times I was
thinking lean and trying to create it once against base element.

I have a Primary Key of Lets say Asset ID and two data mapping fields
and that is it. I am not creating records only updating. When I look
at the logs it looks as if AIE cannot find the file and it tries to
create it. The ARSystem count is 0 when it should be 1. This same
mapping runs against the computer system class and works fine.

Any ideas, is there a step with Base Element I am missing. I have built
workflow against Base Element that modified and created records and had
no problems. I can also build a staging form that can handle this but I
wanted to have it handled in AIE mapping since I am only updated a field
or two and that is it.
