Yup it won’t be as simple as changing login names.. Even if it is not OTB groups if you have customization workflow based on customized groups, it would still present that same problem..
Exporting def files in xml format and looking for those group names and replacing them should work but it will be a really long process.. What is the need to do that? Maybe there is an alternative you could look at like maybe an alias or something?
