Hello All,

Starting right off, does anyone know the what exactly the "Sync Asset UI
with CMDB" process does? What it touches?

My understanding from way back was that the following steps were performed
on a class by the Sync:

1. Check to see if on the AST form, a 'Custom 0' tab exists.

a. If the tab does not exist, create it.

2. Going to the last 'Custom X' tab found, is there room to add
another field to it

a. If no room, then create a new 'Custom X+1' tab.

3. Take the custom field found on the BMC.CORE class and add it into
the view of the current AST form (if the field already exists on the AST
form, then skip to the next custom field).

4. Put the custom field just added to the view onto the 'Custom X' tab
(or newly created one). Normally this aligns it under the previous field

5. Repeat steps 2-4 for any other custom fields added.

We have been running into a lot of problems with using the SyncUI,
especially now that we have overlays involved. Does one even need to use the
SyncUI? Can we not create our custom fields in the CMDB through the normal
process, and then open the AST forms, create the overlay if needed, and add
those fields into the view and then drop them where we want them?

Is there any other meta data that gets added to other parts of the system by
the SyncUI that the above steps would miss?

Our current environments are both Linux and Solaris, using Oracle 11 and
7.6.04 SP2 where available.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
