Hi Gaurav,
You have mentioned that you have about 2000 users, however, there are
missing pieces of information: estimated number of *concurrent* builds,
concurrent requests (how many uploads and how many downloads) performed
against Artifactory at the same time and these pieces are important when
trying to estimate what dedicated machine you need.
In addition to the above, usually, for servers which under constant load,
there are solutions to split the load between multiple instances (see High
Availability
<https://www.jfrog.com/confluence/display/RTF/Artifactory+High+Availability>),
however, these are not available within the OSS version.
With regards to the storage, I assume that you are planning to keep the
binaries in the filesystem, and store the metadata in the Database, which
is the most common method. As for the DB that holds the metadata, Derby
provides good performance as it is running on the same process as
Artifactory. Still, under a *very high* load, performance may degrade since
shared JVM resources such as caches and memory can lead to contention,
therefore, for loaded Artifactory servers, you may want to consider using
an external DB such as MySQL, PostgrSQL which are very common between the
Artifactory owners.
Besides performance, other consideration for choosing external DB is
usually when you have your own DBA who is already manage maintain an
existing DB in the company.
You can find the Databases list which 'certified' by JFrog here
<https://www.jfrog.com/confluence/display/RTF/Changing+the+Default+Storage>.
