I have exactly the same problem. I guess the reason why sequences don't
work properly is that I haven't compiled arts with sequencer support
(there is no properly working /dev/sequencer device) I haven't tried it,
yet, but I think it could work if I recompiled arts with sequencer
support (this has to be specified by a command line option of the
configure script (I think --with-sequencer or something like that))...
