Are you sure you�re using a "full duplex"-capable soundcard?
(record&play at the same time?) And are you running aRts in full
duplex mode (commandline param -d or "kcmshell arts" AKA the aRts
kcontrol module, checkbox "Enable full duplex operation")?
Even then, I am no professional, I don�t know if your try is supposed
to work while it seems reasonable to me. (And I can�t try with my
_old_ SB16 ASP multi-cd..) ;-)
