Joe, perhaps this is news to you but just a few examples re "…lack of
citizen involvement (i.e., low voter turnout) leads to secrecy and
back room deal making."  

I don't recall if this coincided with, preceded or followed the riots
but there was a moment when Asbury might have joined with its
surrounding municipalities to create regional schools and sewer
treatment.  At the time council acted as though it could dictate and
acted alone.  

I doubt the 80's council that sold the copper roof of and off the
Casino shared its reasoning or the money derived with either the
residents or tenants.  

The current illustrious council has been unable, I dare say unwilling,
to act openly with regard to either the initial Fishman deal or its
subsequent interminable amendments.  The most recent and glaring
example being Mr. Loffredo's numerical magic justifying a $175 - 400K
giveaway as somehow actually being $36 million of receivables.  With a
councilman like this somebody should call a cop.  Skip Bernstein
