Traderdube: Thank you so much for your post. I agree that this
forum can be a great place for discusssion, but that discussion gets
off track by posts that are just insults without substance about the
topic.

Although you and I disagree on the success of the council, your post
on that topic is certainly thought provoking and moves the debate
forward.

Other issues I do agree with you about:

1. The gay and lesbian influx since the late 1990's is certainly
the catalyst to Asbury's rising in the area of residential real
estate development and opening businesses. Couple that with what
Pat Fasano and Pat Schiavino did Downtown, and there is your "first
responders" in the rescue of Asbury Park. Kudos to all of them.
Although many on this board will disagree with me (but not so in the
general public) the 2001 council election stands next in line for
the credit.

2. You are 100% right about various boards standing in the way of
development. I wrote a column about them a couple years back
declaring all Planning Boards, Zoning Boards and Technical Review
Committees to be "nosey neighbor" committees. They are comprised of
people who are empowered by telling their neighbors what they can or
can't do with their own money. As you correctly point out, they
hinder development. Not just in AP, but everywhere.

Again thanks so much for disagreeing with me without calling me
names or accusing me of being insincere about my opinions. You know
how to conduct yourself in a discussion. A true gentleman.
