I missed the APP article that was posted here concerning Councilman Keady. Thanks, BB, for posting and thanks for your opinion on it. Before commenting on BB's comments I have to comment on Skip's relentless and totally obnoxious continual habit of responding to bits and pieces of posts that he doesn't like with his cynical and scurrilous bullshit. What will it take to get you to go away Skip? Your bad company at a bar, and worse on an internet discussion group. And just to clarify, in a small city that this group is based on, it is the wiser choice to remain under a screen name, I have met many of the participants here and they know who I am and I know who they are. The bottom line Skip, and anyone who wants to disagree, please do so, but you bring this group down to depths unknown.
BB wrote about the mayor and council, "After the tremendous, successful hard work they have done in uplifting Asbury Park".... I heartily disagree. Though I am a fan of the 5 men who govern the City, I totally disagree. The Mayor and Council, especially the 2nd term guys, have failed at not only uplifting the spirit of AP, but they have also failed at ridding the streets of drugs and crime, failed at holding the waterfront developers accountable for 4+ years of inaction, and they have failed miserably at uniting not only their constituency, but the people who who under them at City Hall. Asbury's spirits being where they are are more due to the Gay and Lesbian influx than anything else. And not because the Gay and Lesbian is so happy, but because the Gay and Lesbian influx brought in hard dollars, and along with a few brave and hearty developers, have brought Asbury Park's property values up to the surrounding areas. What has the Mayor and Council done? Zilch. Just last week at Planning Board appeal meeting, a builder wanted to get approval for a two family home in the West Sewell Ave area. This was the 2nd time in front of the Board, they complied with each and every point the board asked for and still, they were unanimously rejected. Why would the planning board reject an application for a 2 family home in what is still one of the most depressed areas of Asbury? A new home, 2 new ratables, in an area that has seen nothing but decay and crime for so long should be welcomed with open arms and considerations that would enhance the builders task, not stop it cold. The same thing has happened on 4th Ave. The 2 worst apartment buildings in Asbury Park are being renovated by private developers using their own money, their own resources to relocate existing tenants, and will move in over 90 new families into Asbury Park. What was the thanks they received for taking on such a difficult project, stop work orders, no permits and absolute silence from the Mayor, Council and City Manager. How many other developers have been stopped in their tracks by city bureaucracy? How many other projects have been waylayed and canceled because City of Asbury Park officials decided that zoning and site plans and other unknown contingencies interrupt the work process and bring in the lawyers for 5 grand a day? Councilman Keady is showing balls to ask hard questions that so many of us want answered. The Tri-City News view of Asbury through magic glasses is a false and mis-leading view that simply isn't real. The proof is in the streets and businesses that are struggling to attain respectability and profits. BlueBishop is not only entitled to his opinion, his opinions should kick off a great debate between all of us on the AP Yahoo digest. Instead, we'll get a bunch of pseudo-intellectual one liners from Skip and the usual crew, the intellectual will be removed, and the debate simply won't come off. This is the greatest forum we can hope for, but sadly, we are blowing it big time allowing the Skip's of the internet to drag us down. ------------------------ Yahoo!
