That's why the whole ABBOTT system needs a major overhaul. Doing my math and having read through many of the qualifications to "be classified" an ABBOTT district, I think my OCean Township should soon qualify, while Asbury should see a rise(ing). YOu have people in Interlaken (as asbury the receiver) finding loopholes so their kids don't have to go to AP, while AP pays for them to get bussed to private schools(I mean the state). So if you live in Itnerlaken, and AP doesn't offer "classic dance to the operas of the 18th century.." or something like that, and that kid needs it, off they go to some private school. Meanwhile, those education $ that are meant to educate the rest of the kids, be it OT or AP or anywhere, get shuffled off to private schools. Frank once gave a number that AP pays out. If you had to pay a school tax in AP: 1. Landlords might dump some of their holdings 2. Somehomeowners may run.... GOVERNOR CORZINE'S STATEMENT ON ABBOTT RULING TRENTON - We have a great deal of work ahead of us to ensure that all children across New Jersey receive a thorough and efficient education, and that public, local and school officials are accountable for the public funds they receive. Our focus will be to get resources to the children. We must meet their needs and prepare them for the challenges they face upon graduation. Only when that goal is met, and not a moment sooner, will we have achieved a victory. COMMISSIONER FAILS TO HONOR ABBOTT COMMITMENTS Public records show that Commissioner Lucille Davy has failed to follow through on her pledge to the NJ Supreme Court that she would improve public accountability for Abbott funding. MAKING ABBOTT REFORM MORE FRUITFUL The landmark Abbott v. Burke rulings ordered not only adequate funding for urban schools, but also State and district accountability for the "effective and efficient" use of these funds. David Sciarra presents an "accountability agenda" for the Corzine administration, and explains how to harness Abbott as an "engine for reform." http://www.edlawcenter.org/ ------------------------ Yahoo!
