The "Justified Right" column of December 7 begins with a quote from Albert
Einstein: "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is
blind."

But there is not one citation to back up any assertion in the entire column
which follows. For example: "A New Jersey case outlawed a kindergartner from
handing out candy canes and talking about the birth of Jesus" is cited to
prove that secular humanists are winning an alleged "War on Christmas" which
has made its way to Asbury Park.

That piqued my interest; I'd really like to know more about that case.

I can't help my curiosity; I'm Jesuit educated, and so assertions made
without sources are not evidence. They're, well,... just Humbug.

(BTW: Cherry picking quotes can also lead to Humbug. Einstein also said:
"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie
which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and
I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in
me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the
structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.")

Disclaimer: This is not a personal attack. Nor does this reveal my own
personal religious belief or lack of. That would be an unbecoming use of
religion for self-promotion, wouldn't it?
