Subject: [AsburyPark] Wall of Trees Around Sunset Lake

Yesterday I heard the digging and went to investigate. The machine
was just finishing its task of drilling holes around the perimeter
of Sunset Lake. Hole after Hole after Hole dotted the shoreline.

After some inquieries it was reveiled that about 100 trees were
being planted. WoW - great - trees! Of course that is the initial
reaction, until where they are being planted is examined.

The entire lake East of Grand Ave is being surrounded by trees. In
effect the water views are being blocked off by a wall of trees. Is
this good? The beauty of the Lake is that you can see across it
unobstructed at points.

The Veterans Memorial being the exception and rightfully so, it was
designed to be different and a focal point. But the clear vistas
will be clear no more. It will all merge into a Wall of Trees.

On greater examination, trees are being placed where a sidewalk
would potentially be constructed on the north shore. Why place trees
in what is obviously space for a sidewalk?

That little clear lawn areas at Park Ave and the one at 5th and
Grand are being turned into forests. How sad that that this was not
thought out better.

Yes, plant trees, yes beautify the City, BUT do not destroy what
little character and interest exists in the streetscape during the
process.
