I have a lot of wonderful memories from this weekend, but I think the most touching was the flowers I received on Friday from the "Boardwalk Kitties" thanking me for being there for them.  I had no idea who they were from  until Glenn came in and asked me if I had gotten my flowers.  What a thoughtful gesture Glenn---You are a great person and we will  be looking forward to seeing you in December!

Subject: [AsburyPark] Notes from this weekends visit and Thank you Wonderbar!
Date: Mon, 01 Oct 2007 00:45:57 -0000

I hope that you all had the chance to stop by the Wonderbar and wish
Debbie and Lance well. The crowds were amazing, both last night and
today. It's still going strong, if you haven't been there yet, act
quickly!

As usual, I walked miles and miles and miles taking pictures of the
new, the old and the changing. Some things that I noted:

- Yes, the Sunset Ave. pavilion is being cleaned out. There are
several open holes in the second floor and two dumpsters full of
memories on Ocean Ave.

- Madison Marquette had painters in today spiffing up their offices
on the Boardwalk.

- A renovation of some sort is underway at the former Red Fusion
restaurant.

I walked the perimeter of Deal lake today. I had to wonder why the
Asbury Park side of the lake was a pretty safe walk, but the sink
holes on the Deal side were so unattended? I made it back safe
though!

I met two gentlemen at Sunset and Ocean early this afternoon. They
saw my camera and asked if I had captured any interesting pictures.
I replied that I had been taking pictures of the geese on Sunset
Lake. We got into a very nice conversation, I hope their remaining
years are as enjoyable as possible.

On my way back to The Empress, I stopped by The Berkeley Oceanfront
Hotel (New Name) and approached the front desk. I politely asked if
I could take a few pictures of their newly renovated lobby. The
reply was less than polite. I was asked WHY I would want such a
picture (my reply was "due to the renovation") and I was told
that "No one is here to give you permission, and I am certain that
it will be a problem." Then, I was asked to leave. I left.

I was also here to get a few additional pictures of the Metropolitan
Hotel before it's demise. There is working electricity in the
north, third floor! I saw a light shining in there. R.I.P.
Metropolitan. If you go to get your own pictures, walk around the
back. There is a portion of the "ceiling" that has collapsed and a
shirt sleeve is dangling from the hole. Other "photographers" and I
wondered if it had remains in it!

I then stopped for lunch/dinner at Old Man Rafferty's. The
renovation of that building is astounding. Expert care was taken in
that effort. The staff is exceptionally friendly, the food is
excellent. A very nice experience.

Back to the Boardwalk... Although I agree that the work on the
Casino seems slow, I did notice that a new tile roof is being
actively assembled on the Heating Plant. I also saw a few changes
in the Carousel building (since late July) as well.

Additionally, from my room at the Empress, I can see that some work
has been done in the second floor of the First Avenue pavilion.

The Empress is also doing work, I noticed that the A/C enclosures
and the Hotel entrance (which were looking a bit shabby) are being
replaced and cleaned up.

I have immensely enjoyed my visits this year and I wish all of you
the best! I'll be back again; it's looking like December now. I
would love to see "Scrooge" at The Paramount!

Oh, and Maureen... I learned some new things about you! Kudos for
being mentioned in the Foreward of Helen Pike's book (Frank D as
well)... and also for posing for the Baronet mural (I am sorry they
painted it over.)

Be well!

Glenn
