I meant to apprise you of this. Perhaps you did not know but the 5
council members, including the mayor, are part-time elected officials.
They receive a "stipend" and I believe health benefits. The majority
of the council picks one of them to be the "mayor," thus, a mayor is
not really elected by the populace. It is the city manager who really
has the job of running the city from day to day. I think Tommy has
some good ideas about how our governance needs to be reformed, in that
we have council members elected from each of the districts or wards
and elect a full time mayor.
