Hi! I'm looking into how to maintain multiple translations of a collection of asciidoc documents (about 500) in a sane way. The main challenge is to keep track of changes to the original documents, and keep the translations up to date.
I'd love to hear if anyone has experience in this area! The most promising approach I've found so far is using po4a: http://po4a.alioth.debian.org/ In essence, it chunks up documents into smaller pieces (like paragraphs) and makes them available to gettext: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gettext This way a whole ecosystem of tools are available for the actual translation. Here's an example po file generated by po4a, for use by gettext tools: https://github.com/nawroth/manual-french/blob/po/po/highlights.txt.po You can edit such a file by using a GUI tool like Poedit, Lokalize or Virtaal. When the po file has been updated, the translated asciidoc files are generated from the original documents + translations by po4a (using gettext to extract the translated texts). Po4a has some support for asciidoc, but seems to lack for example support for the table syntax, meaning that tables will get messed up. Anyone else got po4a working with asciidoc?
