I post here info about sherlock1 search engine a long time ago (one
year?).
Now, authors has released new, completely rewritten version - sherlock 2.x

see
http://www.ucw.cz/holmes/
http://freshmeat.net/projects/holmes/
or online at http://www.webfast.cz/ (indexing .cz domain)

some features i miss in aspseek and sherlock has them:
VERY configurable, commented source code, documentation, language for
defining URL filtering rules (very interesting, we should implement
something similar to aspseek), very modular architecture.

PS:it is distributed under GPL/LGPL for libraries with obscure limitation:
you are allowed to index max. 100000 documents...(is it GPL compatible?)
