I do not still understand why anyone would want to call such a beautiful
name "Assam" as  Asom or Oxom

Why not call it Ahom instead, which is what some people are trying to push
for. This is my personal opinion. This is because every most assamese
words that have a "s" is actually prounced as "h"

Assam, Okhom, baas (bamboo), baah, saag, haag, swaad, huad,   Sukha, huka...
so my opinion is if Assam is written as Asom it actually meants to be
prounced as Ahom....
