The reply by Mr Rohit Pathania is relevant in that, R.O. creates or Ion Exchange for that matter a highly toxic stream of extremely brackish water. There have been protests from fishermen in Chennai for example when a R.O plant was letting out the brackish stream into the sea, killing marine organisms.
