NRI Association of Assam formed
  
 GUWAHATI, Feb 20 Assam Tribune – A meeting of the non resident Indians from 
Assam held here recently to discuss about their long felt willingness to serve 
the interest of their homeland– Assam, specially in the field of 
socio-cultural, educational, scientific and technological development and make 
their offsprings aware of its rich cultural heritage. The meeting addressed by 
Dr Anil Ranjan Borthakur, Dr Ashraf Bora, Dr Karuna Sagar Das, Lahori 
Borthakur, Julie Bora among others, decided to initiate a move to unite the 
Assam NRIs living in different parts of the globe and formed an association 
with the name and style as Non Resident Indian Association of Assam with its 
headquarter at Guwahati. This was stated in a press release.

The meeting presided over by Dr Anil Ranjan Borthakur, constituted a seven 
member executive committee of the association with Dr Anil Ranjan Borthakur as 
president, Dr Nilamani Sikdar as vice-president, Dr Karuna Sagar Das as general 
secretary, Dr Ashraf Bora, Lahori Borthakur and Geeta Sikdar as secretaries and 
Jullie Bora as joint secretary.

Attending the meeting as invited guests, eminent citizens including Bijoy Kumar 
Bhuyan and Oley Bhuyan whole heartedly welcomed the move of the Assam NRIs and 
assured all necessary co-operation in the interest of development of the State.
