Wahid daThanks for sharing the details on the work of  Chandan Gogoi  and
Prasanta Bordoloi  We are glad to know about the DY365 telecast anchored by
Mrinal TalukdarThe most valuable resource on earth is not oil, gold, water or
land. Instead, our capacity for expanding human knowledge is our greatest
resource .  Mr. Uddhab Bharali and Jadav Payeng showed that we can
overcomescarcity and adversity through the application of innovation. While
most of us sit back, putting our heads in sand, un-rustled by the stirrings of
our conscience, there are few who choose to rally together. Let's continue to
highlight  their work and achievements , the more examples we bring forth, the
more we abound in .ThanksAnkur

Assam: Some latest development Pls find the discussion telecast (in Assamese;
anchor Mrinal Talukdar, 15-07-15 in his telecast  Prasangakrome (relevance) in
channel DY365) on flood situation in Assam. This would confront you with the
grim situation of erosion and flood prevailing in Assam. It also confirms that
the representatives from Assam in the Lok Shabha are not effective. A few more
years, they will be still discussing and there will be no Majuli to discuss
about.            As far back as in June 2004 Lok Sabha debated over Erosion
control. But it seems nothing materialised. Flood and erosion are still annual
recurring events. 1.      Lok Sabha DebatesNeed To Clear All Pending Flood And

  3.   Big dams may bring catastrophe to NE
(http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/detailsnew.asp?id=jul1015/state053 )The
seminar organised in early July was chaired by DPC president Anuj Kalita.
Chandan Gogoi of Sadiya, who along with other villagers, successfully
controlled the erosion caused by the Kundil river at Sadiya by using local
technology, also shared his experiences in the seminar. He showed a documentary
on his work. Earlier, DPC secretary Manoj Dutta delivered the keynote address.
So the big question is: if they can do it in Sadiya why are they not able to
implement it in Majuli?  4.   Our Forest man Padmashri Jadav Payeng has with
his Molai Forest proved it. Despite the flood and erosion his forest still
exists and still growing. This is a living example demanding a new approach -
use nature against nature.            The Dutch are doing the same to protect
the beach and the shores from the sea they have reverted to a “low-tech”
solution offered by Mother Nature which is simple to implement, less expensive
and much more effective than high-tech solutions. It is the use of maram grass
which is a strong plant that is well able to withstand wind and salt.
The Molai forest - Watch, Forest Man, to know about Jadav Payeng and take
inspiration from his lifelong love for nature and wildlife. The link includes a
short film

Based on his own knowledge and experience of Jadav Payeng, Prashanta
Bordoloi, former director of The North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and
Land Management (NERIWALM) has proposed a new approach on the issue of "Erosion
Management in alluvia river with special reference to the Brahmaputra - a novel
pro-active sound eco-friendly economical approach" and presented his idea to
the PMO. Prashanta has already received a reaction to his proposal. The
technical wing of the Union Ministry of water Resources Ministry requested the
full concept paper from him. To outline his idea he has in his Face Book
(https://www.facebook.com/prashanta.bordoloi) presented a short
filmhttp://tinyurl.com/qjxdznu.         Prashanta has also successfully
implemented erosion protection in Jhanjimukh. It is a small beginning. Today
the people of Jhanjimukh sleeps in peace with the main course of the
Brahmaputra adrift 1.5 km towards the middle of Brahmaputra.          In their
approach they are now trying all locally available grass, reeds and shrubs that
thrives riverrine ecology - a sort of riverrine mangrove.  5.   Please find
attached also an article by Prasanta Bordoloi " Greening the Brahmaputra -
Mission of Forest Man of India Padmashri Dr. Jadav Payeng Forest Man of IndiaIt
seems there is a ray of light at the end of the tunnel.GreetingsWahid
