A few years back I had the honour of listening to Dr. Shashi Tharoor at The
Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam. In this debate at the Oxford Union, I
find Dr. Tharoor at his best.

"Irrespective of our political leanings and beliefs, we can agree to the
fact that Dr. Shashi Tharoor is one of the top debators of the country.
That's why it's not surprising when the diplomat and former minister of
state for external affairs took part in a debate at the Oxford Union. The
argument was on whether Britain should pay reparations to India for the
wrongs committed by them (like you know, ruining the social and economic
fabric of India, killing thousands of our people and stuff like that) during
the 200 years of its colonial rule. In his 15 minute agrument, Tharoor made
subtle jabs at the British empire for exploiting India and turning it into
'Britain's biggest cash cow'."

"We were denied democracy, so we had to snatch it, seize it from you"
- Shashi Tharoor on Britain's colonial legacy-
