Juri Borah Borgohain was born in 1978 at Majuli of Jorhat district in
Assam. She holds first class MA in Political Science and an M.Phil degree from
Dibrugarh University with SLET qualification. She worked as a journalist during
1998 to 2005 in a number of news papers. She also served as a college teacher
in various colleges since 2003 to 2010. At present she is a full time
professional writer. She is well known as a novelist, story-writer and an
essayist in Assamese literature.
She has published eight novels, a book on herbs and edited one book
on literary topics. Her first novel Dibrugarh Biswabidyalayar Nandini was
published in 2004. Her other novels are Apunjonor Thikona (2007), Abhilashi
Jatra (2008), Rag... Emon (2009), Naang-Faa (2010), Ledolam (2012) and Bhook
(2015). Novel Jalaj(2013) was serially published in a news paper magazine.
Besides, she has published 21 novelettes, 55 stories, 100 essays, several
travelogue in popular news papers & magazines. She has quite a great number of
talks, stories, interviews broadcasted on the radio. Moreover, she has to her
credit a number of telifilms and interviews telecasted in different television
channels. She contributed 100 articles and images in the First Assamese
Software Dictionary & Encyclopedia. She has presented research papers in
national-international seminar cum conferences. She has also published a few
research articles in national-international journals and volumes. Apart from
these she has been showing social responsibilities in some issues like
trafficking of children and women, inter-state border disputes etc.
She has been regularly publishing several research based articles in
a popular magazine on herbs and fishes available in Assam. She has also been
honoured as Resource Person, Chief Guest, Distinguished Guest Special Guest and
inaugurator in different national and state level institutions as well as
conferences including Sahitya Akademi, National Book Trust (NBT), universities,
colleges, etc. It is worth mentioning that her works are being studied for
research purposes and research papers are also being presented in
national-international seminars accordingly. Her recent books have been
considered as reference book by the scholars. She is the recipient of Harendra
Chandra Borkakati Award (2009), Special Recognition of Jeevan Initiative
(2012), Yuva Anuprerona Award (2013) etc.
