The Postal Department is a Central Govt. branch, isn't it?

If so, how is it that the UPSC rejected the appeal of the Assam candidates?

Because a rule-is-a-rule, I am sure. And obviously is zealously guarded by
some clerks-from-hell. Never mind that these kids didn't even get a chance
to compete for a chance to go to a school that is supported by their
tax-rupees.

On the other hand, if a similar demand from some 'uporwalla' had come thru
for a son or a relative, the same clerks-from-hell would probably would
have bent over backwards to accomodate them ( note the the culture of
sucking-up and pissing down). But who cares about ordinary students, that
too from Assam? Must be their own damn fault! Sloths!

My urge is to tell these kids to sue the hell out of them, even though we
know full well it would be pissing on the ocean.

On a personal note, 39 years ago, I almost got snagged up in a similar
predicament. I never RECEIVED the post card, not even belatedly, informing
me that I qualified for an interview at IIT-KGP. Luckily for me, my older
brother, who was a graduate of the same institution, SOMEHOW, managed to
get a message thru to one of his classmates, who was then teaching at the
institution, to have him look up the list to see if I made it to the
interviews. Had this friend not sent a telegram back with an affirmative,
my life's course could have been an entirely different one today (I know, I
know, some netters might not mind that at all :-). But that is
different). The telegram, without a date of interview, created its own set
of circumstances, dramatic to me, but maybe comic to others.
