the linuxjournal article has a different take. it claims it was the
government that hastily announced the use of linux, to extract the
maximum from bill gates. this apparently is a common tactic most
governments play on microsoft. it is only china that has consistently
implemented its linux policy.
my guess is schools would sonner find it more beneficial to get the
computers and install linux on them. that is, if the kids can be
stopped from using them to just play games.
