No-nonsense Chief Secy wants Dispur file movements tracked

GUWAHATI, Sept 23:
In an effort to promote work culture at the offices in the State Secretariat here, the Assam Chief Secretary Mr JP Rajkhowa has instructed the Commissioners and Secretaries to monitor the movement of files and to submit weekly reports on file movement in accordance with the Assam Secretariat Manual to him. A mechanism for supervision of file movement has existed for a long time in the Secretariat, but this has not been adhered to for several years.

"The North-east has the potential of supplying power to the entire country. There will be no dearth of funds from the Centre to develop and run hydro-electric projects in this region," said Ms Jayawanti Mehta, Union Minister of State for Power, speaking to presspersons in the city today. The Minister was here to inaugurate the North Eastern branch of the National Power Training Institute (NPTI). "The government declared a new Electricity Act on June 10 this year.
