Shantikam-da,
  Thanks for taking the initiative.

Raiz -
The AssamNet is a veritable source of information and "a place of exchange" for
discussion and
debate. Obviously, this list has people who have been really successful in their
careers. If we
can harness the creative energy (there are lot of people who want to do "something"
for their
place of birth) that abound in this discussion space and direct them at developing
Assam/the NE,
we would have done our bit. Sanjoy Hazarika's appeal is something to be considered.

Chandan-da/Mahesh-da/Ram-da/AlpanaBa/Rajen-da and the others interested, please take
some time off
and think about the proposal. I see the C-NES taking the shape of a lobby at Delhi.
This is very
important for the NER in the long term. All of us must be sick and tired of seeing
Assam/the NE at
the bottom of all lists by now. Am I sounding very morose? Well, one would be - that's
the
bottomline. But hope is a force that constructs. One is hopeful because of active
people like
Sanjoy Hazarika or Jayanta Madhab. Shantikam-da, an IIM (Ahmedabad) grad went back and
setup the
Assam Institute of Mgmt - no mean feat considering all the wrong examples around him.
Today, grads
from the institute are going places in the corporate world. A report on Cotton College
reveals
that one of our teachers Dr Satyen Choudhury is leading a few success stories at the
grass-roots
level....
http://www.telegraphindia.com/1030926/asp/northeast/story_2386493.asp
or Kula Saikia, a cop by profession, who has conceived Project Prahari (refer to my
email a few
weeks old) and implemented it....
or Monalisa Bora from the Bay Area - who is an Asha-Star volunteer for
Asha-for-Education. She is
one of the active Project stewards for the ones in Assam. They are undertaking a few
more in the
NE. That is in the works!
or the RVC volunteer, Ravindranath - whom we have identified as the best fit for AID
flood relief,
is someone action oriented, not just merely dishing out sound-bites. We have received
good
feedback about Ravidranath from different sources , including Shantikam-da. There are
many
unknown, unsung heroes working at improving things.

Please consider reading through the writeup. We do have the power to bring about
change. I take
the liberty of copying a list of professionals from the NE. Ranjeev, please forward to
xarothi.

regards,
Partha
