This is from Dil Deka ============== Mr. Sharma, Because of the principle of separation of church and state in the U.S., there are very strict rules concerning the posting of the Ten Commandments in government offices, including public schools. Public schools are required to remain neutral on religious matters. This means that:
They cannot promote one religion over another. They cannot promote a religious lifestyle over a secular lifestyle, or vice versa. To be constitutional, the Ten Commandments cannot be posted in isolation. Bobby Jindal describes himself as Indian-American. When he calls himself an Indian- American , he is not referring to his religous practices. Jindal's resume also shows that he was responsible for rescuing Louisiana Medicaid program from bankruptsy by turning a $400 million deficit into three years of surpluses by cracking down on frauds. Indian politicians in India probably can learn a thing or two from him. Jindal will have a hard time if he forces the ' Ten commandment ' writings in Government buildings. But if Bobby Jindal or his supporters put up ' respect thy parents ', or ' thou shall not steal' in front of their homes , I can live with it :) Regarding his conversion to Christianity, it was his choice. Dil Deka umesh sharma <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Jindal, who converted to Catholicism as a teenager http://in.rediff.com/news/2003/oct/04us1.htm Born to Hindu parents, Jindal converted to Christianity in his teens. http://in.rediff.com/news/2003/oct/04us.htm The Hindustan Times also mentioned that Bobby -favours writing the Ten Commandments (Christian laws) on Govt buildings -perhaps drawing a que from those of so called upper-caste Hindus in Jaipur, who installed a statue of Manu-the socalled Hindu law giver -in the state High Court - and refused to have the statue of the creator of India's constitution - Dr Ambedkar's placed next to Manu's-perhaps becos he is hailed as the Dalit (socalled lower caste) messiah. His statue had to be placed outside, on a nearby roundabout (crossing). I'm not surprised about how things happen in India -but it surprises me that similar incidents have started happening in USA too. Hindus spreading fundamentalism in India -and their brothers (read Bobby jindal) spreading Christian fundamentalism in USA -after converting in childhood. As the old joke goes -about Laloo Yadav -the supremo of Bihar , India's Wild West : when the Japanese PM remarked that give us a chance and we will make Bihar like Japan in 3 years -Laloo remarked ,quick witted as always - allow us just three weeks and we can convert Japan into a Bihar. Good Luck Bobby --make USA like India , if u will !! Umesh PS - Bobby -also let me know how u managed to convert at an age when most of us cannot even make up our minds about the love of our lives -perhaps it was in the American spirit of things - marry early -divorce later. But perhaps , divorcing your new faith woudn't be posible -since ur career depends upon it (alongwith the support of the Christian Right-read fundamentalists and evangelists). And did it not help u secure the Rhodes scholarship too!! -now be honest-with all the high and mighty US professors ready to give lavish recommendations on the neo convert's behalf. Well, I too am giving the TOEFL and GRE in Nov 1st week -(the 1st is on 5th and second's date is due)- at the age of 32 -ur age - I may never become US governor - becos I'll never change my faith -like u did- but I still feel -I can give u a run for ur money - anytime ,in US----becos God doesn't like double dealers. --------------------------------- Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
