I agree. It would have been better if Guwahati (the extended part of it - Dispur, that is) was not the capital of Assam. The temporary place became the permanent capital of Assam.

What was the harm in making Xilghat the capital? Guwahati still would have been the "gateway to the northeast", not overly populated, unplanned roads and buildings won't have sprung out like mushrooms to cause safety hazards for all, and Xilghat would have been more developed too.

Houston is one of the most developed and the 4th largest city in the US and Austin is the capital of Texas, and it did not make Houston any lesser of the two.
