Hi,
I never knew that there was a Hindi and Urdu speaking Indian immigrant population in South America.
It seems Guyana, bordering Venezuela and Brazil is one such country. Urdu is Pakistan's national language (spoken by 8% people??) and widely spoken in North India as well. Hindi is India's national language though spoken by only 40% people.
No wonder I find Professor Reimers and Rafael so knowledgable about us people in South Asia.

Population density seems one hundredth that of El Salvador. El Salvador has 21,000 sq. kms area and 6 million population, whereas Guyana has ten times the area (210,000 sq. kms)but only 700,000 population.
Ofcourse I had heard about VS Naipaul from an immigrant family from India, born in Trinidad and Tobago in the Carribean and had won the Nobel for literature some years ago.
We have many international cricket matches with West Indies as well, who are great players-even had a player of Indian origin on their team once .
Incidently through ALANA I came in touch with a new student at HGSE from Guyana, married to an Indian American. So my interest in this country.
Any comments?
