"hopefully" (thinking wishfully!) justice will prevail.
*** While I join you guys in your wishes, I shall however remain deeply skeptical, on many grounds:
*** Will the Center let the prosecutions go on? Assam will have to
get Delhi's OK first. *** Whether Assam' govt. investigators and prosecutors will be
either willing or able or both, to produce evidence that would stick? *** How long it will take to go to court? And when could hearings
take place, what with never-ending postponements granted by
justices to either the prosecutors or to the defense lawyers? *** Whether political pressures would come to bear depending on
who might get implicated, along with those being accused right now?If past experience is any guide, after years of slowly dangling in the wind, things will quietly disappear, like ALL OTHER such cases. Have you EVER seen or heard of any such person being successfully prosecuted and convicted, of anything? If they were it would be all over the place in the media as an watershed event, not just in Assam, it would be national--and who knows may even become international news :-).
BTW, does anyone know who D.Goswami, IAS, currently being accused of misappropriating huge sums of Bihar flood-relief funds, is? Is he an Assamese Goswami by any chance? He is very big news all over India right now. If you jot the name down and search Google, he would be all over the place.

I wrote about this quite sometime ago. My close friend (now deceased) stirred the pot when he was Commissioner, Rural Development. I am happy for him that things are at last coming to a head and "hopefully" (thinking wishfully!) justice will prevail.

Looks like the levels and intensity of corruption have reached such heights, that even the GOA is fed up with it. Now GOA is trying to prosecute even some IAS officials in a Rs 7-crore scam (populary known as the Greenhouse Scam) --------------------------------------------------------------------

CM's vigilance cell seeks nod to prosecute 68 officials
Press Trust of India Guwahati, May 3, 2005
The Assam Chief Minister's vigilance cell has sought sanction from the state government to prosecute 68 officials, including five IAS officers, for their alleged involvement in a Rs 7 crore 'Greenhouse scam'. However, 34 officials have moved the Guwahati High Court to prevent such a sanction.
The cell had recently, through a letter, sought sanction to prosecute the officers, including nine deputy commissioners and 19 District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) project directors, for alleged conspiracy, criminal misconduct and siphoning of funds to buy sub-standard materials instead of recommended UV (ultra-violet) stabilised polyethelene plastic films for greenhouses to grow off-season vegetables and flowers, official sources said on Tuesday.
Last week, 34 of the government officials, including three IAS officers, filed a writ petition in the court opposing grant of sanction for prosecution.
The vigilance cell after being handed over the case in July 2003 submitted its report to the government in March this year stating that prima facie evidence was found against the 68 officials.
The cell sought sanction from the government to file chargesheet against them under relevant sections of IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
