I think that can be applied to anybody anywhere.
Rapists do not wait for someone to 'provoke' them. Look at all the recent incidents of those little girls being raped and murdered in several states in the US. It is just the sick and cowerdice mind of the rapists - getting the sadistic satisfaction and the feel of being able to dominate someone in a helpless situation.
As for people like Gill, they are the 'machos' who think that women are just 'available'. I think many a time it comes with the family - especially what they saw at home while growing up - how the person's father (or any male relative) treated his mother or the other women in the household. In those households, women are 'allowed' to do nothing but giving birth, rearing children, cooking, cleaning and making hot pickles and 'papads' (papor) during the day - sitting on their courtyard when the 'mighty' men go out to make money to feed them. No opinion, no discussion with them when it comes to taking an important decision - whether its about the children, any kind of investment or anything else. So respect for women? what is that?
