Hi,

Now that I am beginning to feel the heat (not just the weather) though a couple of people have promised to "look out for" for consultancies/jobs for me in their organizations-in various parts of the world.
DC has 85% Black population (as per my stats class) who all vote Democrat. Might get a cheap place to stay in some roudy ghetto.

It reminds me of my historic stay in Old Islmaic part of Delhi during my summer training in the MBA program in 1995 - where I stayed in a place from where Hindus were running away and even giving their places to stay for free. The property prices of Hindu owned houses were falling there -since all Muslims knew that noone would give them good prices. That was the place where the Hindu-Muslim riots first started, whenever they did - be it during the first Gulf War (by anguised Saddam Supporters) or after Babari Mosque demolition. It was where the "dreaded" butchers (with their large meat cleavers) and pet white pigeons used to stay.

Though my south Indian room-mate --who had only been there during daytime-wanted to pack up immediately and leave --finally we both got the courage . The people there were a contented lot. We wore our ties even in hot daytime and during midnight returns (my roommate was training in forex - and waited till 10:30 IST till the NYSE opened to note down the rates and inform his boss if sudden fluctuations-the boss got $100,000 as contract pay then) so that even the locals should learn the importance of technical education -and see us work hard to get inspired by us!!

Our offices were just outside the demolished old Delhi wall -- where on the other side Connuaght Place and British Capital - Lutyens Delhi had been built. My offcie was on the Parliament Street.

Wish us the best.

Umesh
PS: I am trying to learn why the Black population residing on Harvard Street -inbetween Harvard and MIT is ill-kempt and uninspired by these hallowed instituions

Hi,

I have finally found some courage to ask for help. I think most international students would be needing support for getting a place to stay in DC, while they go about job searching. Personally, I didn't have much problem in getting a current residence in Boston, but then here Harvard Housing was here to help us and I didn't have luggage--and no job worries either.

Now in DC I do not know a soul besides IEP guys -in NY I do have a cousin.
So if you help me and other international students find a cheap place to stay - it would be very helpful.

Best.

Umesh
