I also agree that UP/Bihar should not get highlighted just becosw of their population --not that it has done any good for the people of these states.

DN Bezborua is absolutely right when he complains about the unequal representation in Indian Parliament, based on the number of population.Which Indian politician is really worried about the way, say,Mizoram votes? Or Assam? But everyone is worried about the polls in UP/Bihar/Maharashtra et al.Because in a popular vote system, thier numbers alone make up for others!!Because of India's emphasis on numbers, smaller states are actually disenfranchised!!Take for example the cowbelts states like Bihar,MP,UP and Rajasthan. The population in these states will not stabilise till well into the middle of the next century.UP as late as 2100!!This is important because in a democracy, sheer numbers transalate into votes and ruling elite.A complete domination of north Indians, whose numbers give them a decisive advantage in passing the laws, fuelling alienation of the people.KJD _______________________________________________
