Hi, I have passed out of Assam Engineering College in the year 2005. During the time we entered the college, job scenario in the college was not something anyone could be proud of. But there were people who had vision, people who stuck their necks out and worked hard to bring in companies to the college. And as a result of their combined and sustained effort lot of us got placed in reputed companies by the time our seventh semester started. And since then, the college has not looked back.
And being in the industry for the last two years there is one thing I can vouch for - the quality of students (eventual resources !! ) back home are in more ways than one, better than the average student outside. Companies today are recognizing this factor, and is more than willing to tap in this huge resource pool. The only thing that we were lacking was the 'welcome' infrastructure. And with people like Prof Arup Kr Mishra, and the Gogoi brothers (Partha & Pankaj) and their dedicated group of 'souls of the soil' things look brighter with each passing day. Of course we must remember, the broader issue here is not just getting a good job, but bringing Assam and it's deprived people closer to the great Indian boom. I have committed the Himalayan blunder quite a couple of times. The moment you end up describing about the multi-national company (MNC) you are working for, pat comes the response....Ohhh!!...I get it. A BPO!! (like hell he/she knows..may not even know the full form, leave alone the what it stands for! You wince, but valiantly keep a straight face! He/she continues nonetheless...) It is really sad that you people in MNCs have to talk to clients all through the night!?...You try once, you repeat twice, thrice, trying to get it straight again, ultimately you sagely bob your head and echo...yes, sometimes..especially when I can't get any sleep! "When you can't beat them, join them"... is what most of us end up doing. Regards, Gitanjali Hazarika PS: Infosys is a helluva company guys. Great work. Show them your skills. Let them taste the power of Assamese talent. Congratulations once more. May your tribe increase. ========================================= saumar deka Call Centres and the Software Industry are two different things; it's pity people still don't want to know the difference. :) Regards, Saumar ps: Congrats to all who made it to Infosys... it's an incredible company. mc mahant Read "one [EMAIL PROTECTED] call center" and then decide on your IT future! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/assamonline/message/3145 Mukul Mahanta
