V2 is fully multithreaded so both the mail processing and the
background tasks run in separate threads allowing it to handle
heavier loads, this in turn is especially useful on quite "busy"
systems handling a real bunch of messages

If thinks didn't change and as far as I know, v1 should remain 
since it's a perfect solution for "less demanding" installations
especially when it comes to "not so powered" hardware

Didn't compare the versions lately, but the first difference which
comes to my mind is the modular architecture in V2 which allows
to extend it by adding plug-ins (even custom ones)
