mine is a little different, I don't remember the exact reason, but a few
years ago instead of checking for a successful smtp connection I modified
the config to check on the raw statistics port port (on my server listening
on localohost 55355).
check process assp with pidfile /usr/share/assp/assp.pid
start program = "/etc/init.d/assp start"
stop program = "/etc/init.d/assp stop"
if failed host 127.0.0.1 port 55355 protocol http
with timeout 15 seconds
for 3 cycles then restart
