Aquilinux,

Since you are doing this on a VM (as I do) I recommend you copy your 
existing server, put a different IP on it, and run through the entire 
upgrade process, documenting any issues/workarounds.  As soon as you 
have done this, schedule your upgrade as soon as possible (to hopefully 
avoid anything changing in the meantime.)  Snap your prod environment 
and duplicate your upgrade steps.

Rollback shouldn't be a big deal - you are unlikely to lose anything 
except (possibly) new whitelist entries.
